In addition to the maggots, Anthony Digiannurio, of Deltona, Fla., was found with an infected breathing tube, a partially inserted catheter and bed sores when he was taken to Florida Hospital DeLand from the University Center West nursing home in November, according to the report.It was not immediately clear if the death was associated to his care.
A representative from the nursing home said Digiannurio had "constant care from multiple hospice workers and two certified nursing aides at the nursing home."
A) Every staff person who signed that chart or had direct contact with that patient should be in jail

Three of my wife's relatives where in nursing homes until they passed. One of the "assisted living" facilities was top notch, although I really don't know what that means. Although the staff were really nice people, the place sucked like the other facility. The loss of dignity was hearbreaking. The almost covered scent of illness and death was oppressive.
The care is marginal, at best, at these facilites and there's no way in the world the health care for the residents is what anyone would consider acceptable. I don't know what the solution is, but there has to be a better way to allow our family to close their lives.
I'm with you. And each and every one of them ought to receive the same treatment as they gave that poor old man. Bastards.
I don't know what has to happen (or in this case, NOT happen) or for how long, but that should definitely be investigated and those responsible prosecuted.

Stories like this disgust me, how can we allow our elderly to be treated this way. Part of it comes from staffing, the government says that one aid can care for 10 or more total care residents, that means incontinent, needs to be fed etc. now tell me, how can one person - even if they are very hard workers - do all that? And to exacerbate the problem, the facilities pay so low that they do not attract hard workers.
